Our Story
ApertureShop was founded in 2011 by Dimitris Papadopoulos, a former Reuters photojournalist who spent eleven years shooting conflict, sport, and documentary work across the Balkans, the Middle East, and West Africa before returning to Thessaloniki, where he grew up. He opened the shop not because he wanted to stop photographing — he still does — but because he could not find a single independent camera shop in northern Greece that he trusted to service his own gear. The technicians at the big-chain electronics retailers were competent with phones. They were not competent with a Leica rangefinder or a film body that needed a shutter curtain replaced.
